Food Factory Licence

A restaurant kitchen with licence papers

A food factory licence (often called the "takeaway licence") covers businesses that prepare food for people to eat away from the food premises (frozen confection factories excepted). Licensed premises may process, cook or manufacture food for takeaway, but may not offer dine-in.

Common examples are street snack shops, bubble tea shops, takeaway coffee shops and takeaway two-dish rice. Any shop with no dine-in that sells food for takeaway or collection can apply for this licence.

Government fees are charged separately from our service fee.

How it differs from a light refreshment restaurant licence

A food factory licence has no dine-in. If customers are to eat in the shop, consider the light refreshment restaurant licence, whose requirements are simpler and which takes less time.
